Registered Katahdins
Tru Blu Farms now raises Registered Katahdin sheep for breeding and for high quality natural lamb. Like our natural and pastured beef, our Katahdin sheep are rotationally grazed on green grass pastures year round. Katahdin Hair Sheep provide a practical option to producers who are primarily interested in raising a meat animal with great lamb vigor and mothering ability. Katahdin lambs are born vigorous and alert. The Katahdin breed is ideal for pasture lambing and grass/forage-based management systems.
Katahdin sheep do not have to be sheared and produce a product that is naturally lean. Katahdin lamb is known for its very mild flavor.
Our Katahdin flock was purchased from Hound River Farm in Georgia, where Roxanne and Milledge Newton breed for parasite resistance, heat tolerance, excellent mothering, and pounds of superior lambs weaned.
Health records have been maintained on each animal since birth, and our flock is Certified Scrapie Free by the United States Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), one of only a very few certified flocks currently in South Carolina. Our APHIS Scrapie Free Certification program flock number is SC TBF.
We are members of the South Central Katahdin Hair Sheep Association and the South Carolina Sheep Industries Association.
